Keystone, SD

We woke up in Denver one morning and decided to take a nice scenic drive to Mount Rushmore. Yes, that is a six hour road trip one-way on a whim. It was so close that we couldn’t miss it!

Needless to say, it was worth the trip for some pretty spectacular views and fresh bison hot dogs. The mountainous drive is something we definitely want to do again with all of the breathtaking twists and turns through nature’s glory. Getting to see a national landmark at the end of the road was a bonus.

The viewing area at Mount Rushmore has been renovated since my first visit in 2007, and they’ve done a wonderful job getting everything in tip-top condition. Keystone has plenty to do as you can see from our recommendations below. Yet, the surrounding areas such as Rapid City and Hot Springs aren’t too far if you’re looking for some more spots to explore… let us know what you find in those spots if you visit 🙂
